Sam: An ADHD Success Story
Sam was a hyperactive boy diagnosed with ADHD who could not focus or follow instructions in first grade. He was easily distracted, had trouble listening, made careless mistakes in school and took forever to do homework.
Sam trained 3 hours a month in the 5 Safe Roads Program 5 Roads Training and did 2 hours of attention exercises a week at home on his computer. His program identified and nurtured strengths (reading, singing, comedy, drawing). As his attention skills improved he advanced to learn how to set goals, organize, prioritize and complete them.
One day his father brought Sam to the office and mentioned that it took his son way too to do his math homework. When Dad returned an hour and a half later he was pleasantly surprised that Sam had completed his math homework…for the entire week!
After 50 hours of brain training at home Sam successfully completed his program and was awarded the “Most Improved 7 year Old” in the “Head for Success Program.”
At a 2-year follow-up his mother reported that by the end of third grade Sam was happy, attentive, got good grades and still kept his unique personality “edge.” He had been chosen to enter a school contest on robotics and was one of six students chosen to represent the school in higher levels of competition. His team went on to win a trophy and they voted to give it to Sam.
